Am Freitag den 10. Mai um 18:00 Uhr eröffnet der K-Salon die Ausstellung TEMPEST mit Gemälden des Berliner Malers Claus Brunsmann. Im Zentrum der Ausstellung steht Brunsmanns Cover-Version des Giorgione Gemäldes „Das Gewitter“ (La Tempesta). Das Bild gilt als das erste Werk der europäischen Malereigeschichte, in welchem die Landschaft das Zentrum der Komposition ausmacht. Die Figuren sind an den Bildrand gerückt. Dieser Moment bedeutet eine Öffnung in der Kulturgeschichte hin zu einem neuen Denkhorizont, der Mensch tritt aus dem Zentrum und öffnet den Blick auf die Peripherie. Auf diese Weise ergibt sich eine völlig neue Sichtweise auf die Umgebung und die damit verbundenen Bedingungen der menschlichen Existenz. Brunsmann ergänzt dieses zentrale Motiv seiner Ausstellung „Tempest“ mit korrespondierenden Gemälden aus diversen Werkzyklen, die seine künstlerische Praxis illustrieren. Aus der Idee des offenen Horizonts entsteht die lyrische, an der Geschichte der Ölmalerei orientierte Abstraktion, die einzelne Momente der Produktions-Bedingungen in gestischen Spuren aufleuchten lässt, die sich als Erinnerung an Landschaft oder innere Stimmungen absetzt. In einem anderen Bild aus Brunsmanns Serie der „Idole, Untoten und Wiedergänger“ sehen wir eine einzelne Person, die die Landschaft wie in einem Kinofilm traumwandlerisch durchschreitet. Der malerische Farbauftrag verbindet die hier gewählte Narration mit der Auflösung alles Gegenständlichem im Farbauftrag des Künstlers. Es ergibt sich ein Schweben von Bedeutung, ein Flimmern in Beweglichkeit, die den Ritus des Farbauftrages als geschichtliches Moment manifestiert. Konterkarierend auf ironische Weise hinterfragt der Künstler mit dem Bild „psychologische Disteln“ aus seiner Bad-Painting, an Science Fiction und Paranoia-Kritik ausgerichteten A.R. Serie die zeitgemäße Qualität von künstlerischer Produktion. Im Arrangement der ausgewählten Bilder ergibt sich ein eigener Horizont von Bedeutung, der das Werk von Brunsmann in seiner Vielschichtigkeit als Einheit repräsentiert. Der Künstler ist anwesend.
Claus Brunsmann studierte an der Düsseldorfer Kunstakademie bei Markus Lüpertz, Gotthardt Graubner und ist Meisterschüler des italienischen „Arte-Povera“-Künstlers Jannis Kounellis. Brunsmann stellte seit Mitte der neunziger Jahre aus. Herausragende Ausstellungsbeteiligungen waren seine Teilnahme am ersten „Salon der Gegenwart“ (Hamburg 2011, Katalog) , die Sammlung Bertollini im Museo del Novecento (Mailand 2015, Katalog). Unter dem Titel „CLAUS BRUNSMANN - Distorted Memories of Nature“ erschien 2012 sein Künstlerbuch im Kerber-Verlag. Claus Brunsmann war Teilnehmer der OMI International Arts Residency in New York, USA und der Ausstellung RECIPROCAL FABRICATION, in Jinan, China, im Oktober 2013. Seine Bilder befinden sich in nationalen und internationalen Privatsammlungen.

On Friday May 10th at 6:00 p.m. the K-Salon opens the exhibition TEMPEST with paintings by the Berlin painter Claus Brunsmann. At the center of the exhibition is Brunsmann's cover version of the Giorgione painting “The Thunderstorm” (La Tempesta). The picture is considered the first work in the history of European painting in which the landscape is the center of the composition. The figures have moved to the edge of the picture. This moment represents an opening in cultural history towards a new horizon of thought; people step out of the center and open their eyes to the periphery. This creates a completely new perspective on the environment and the associated conditions of human existence. Brunsmann complements this central motif of his exhibition “Tempest” with corresponding paintings from various work cycles that illustrate his artistic practice.
The idea of an open horizon gives rise to lyrical abstraction, oriented towards the history of oil painting, which allows individual moments of the production conditions to shine through in gestural traces, which stand out as a reminder of the landscape or inner moods. In another picture from Brunsmann's series of “Idols, Undead and Revenants” we see a single person walking through the landscape like in a movie. The painterly application of color connects the narrative chosen here with the dissolution of everything objective in the artist's application of paint. The result is a floating of meaning, a flickering of mobility that manifests the rite of applying paint as a historical moment. Counteracting in an ironic way, the artist questions with the picture “psychological thistles” from his bad painting, A.R., which is oriented towards science fiction and paranoia-criticism-series as the contemporary quality of artistic production. The arrangement of the selected images creates its own horizon of significance, which represents Brunsmann's work in its complexity as a unity.

Claus Brunsmann studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Markus Lüpertz and Gotthardt Graubner and is a master student of the Italian 'Arte Povera' artist Jannis Kounellis. Brunsmann has been exhibiting since the mid-1990s. Exhibition participations included the first 'Salon Contemporary' (Salon der Gegenwart, Hamburg 2011, catalogue) and 'The Bertollini Collection' at the Museo del Novecento (Milan 2015, catalogue). His artist book 'CLAUS BRUNSMANN - Distorted Memories of Nature' was published by Kerber-Publishers, Berlin in 2012. Claus Brunsmann was a participant in the 'OMI International Arts Residency' in New York, USA and the exhibition 'RECIPROCAL FABRICATION' in Jinan, China, in October 2013.
His paintings are part of national and international private collections.
